Instructions for our Imported Heat Transfer (Iron-on) Reflective Tapes

Our heat transfer reflective films can be applied to many fabrics - as they can withstand the heat of application.  Apply the film using a "dry" iron set to medium temperature (a "cotton" setting around 266-302ºF).  Be sure to allow the iron to come up to temperature before applying.  The silver segmented VCsgHW-R2 and VCsgHW2 have no liner and can be applied directly to cloth material.  Be sure the side with the segments is placed down directly against the cloth and the clear carrier film is on top for the iron to be applied to.  For the solid yellow/silver/yellow striped film, (VChtHW-R2sv-fy and VChtHW2sv-fy) be sure to remove the blue liner from the adhesive side before application.

To gain a feel for application, practice by applying a piece onto a sample of material (like an old T-shirt).  Use a solid ironing board or other surface like a smooth wooden block (good for inserting into sleeves) or the top of a dryer covered with a dish towel.  To begin, iron the material to remove wrinkles.  Cut and lay out a tape segment where you want it to be.  Avoid placing segments across or adjacent to seams.  Make sure the carrier film side is on top.  Starting at one end, press the iron down on the tape with firm pressure and heat it for about 10-12 seconds.  Adjust the iron's position a few times to compensate for any steam holes in its bottom.  Heating longer than 12 seconds may scorch your material (not recommended for nylon).  For long sections of tape, work incrementally along the tape to its other end.  Once the tape has cooled completely, carefully pick at one corner of the clear carrier film.  Once started, pull the corner of the carrier film away slowly at a low angle, in a smooth continuous motion, revealing the reflective surface.  If you see corners or strips lifting, lay down the clear film again and re-apply using more pressure and heat on those areas.

To see the tape's reflectivity, place the item in a dim or dark room, stand about 15' away from the garment and hold a flashlight near the level of your eyes.  Shine it at the tape and you will see a bright reflection from thousands of microscopic glass beadlets embedded in the surface of the tape.  These beadlets reflect light internally back toward its source, and by this mechanism, an automobile's lights will make you conspicuous to the driver long before you can otherwise be seen.

To maximize longevity, it is recommended that clothing with these reflective films be machine washed at a warm setting (104ºF) and then line dried or machine dried at a low temperature setting.  Do not use bleach, but can be dry-cleaned.  Continue to be safe, and please visit us again at www.identi-tape.com/heat-transfer.html
