TYPE II SUPER-ENGINEERING GRADE (SEG) REFLECTIVE TAPE is 60% to 100% brighter than regular "engineering grade" reflective tape and is used on fire trucks & EMS vehicles, pipe posts, gates, bollards, barricades and signs (not recommended on rough-finished wood). It is for smooth flat surfaces and smooth rounded surfaces (like pipes, bollards, and bar gates, not compound curves like a helmet). It utilizes embedded microscopic glass beadlets to reflect light, is thin (5.5 mil), and has a permanent acrylic adhesive with a peel-off backing. It is best applied using a soapy water solution (or Windex) and a squeegee.
Super-engineering grade reflective tape is marked by a small (3/16") gray star watermark every 7" horizontally and every 2" vertically (example to left). White, yellow, red, meet FHA specifications for highway signage; reflectivity (Type II), resistance to weathering, and longevity (12-year minimum), and exceed ASTM specifications D 4956 and LS-300C. Tape should be applied when it and the surface it is applied to are within the range of 64F to 77F, but it is service rated from -40ºF to 180ºF. To maximize longevity, the adhesive should be allowed to cure 48 hours before being put into service. The brightest reflecting color is white, followed by yellow, orange, and red. Tape is sold in 15-foot lengths and in 50-yd rolls. Multiples of 15' lengths will be sent as a continuous length unless requested otherwise in the "comment box" when checking out.
NOTE: for tape without "star" watermarks, or for surfaces that are irregular, like diamond plate on the backs of fire apparatus, or surfaces that involve compound curves, please see our Flexible Engineering Grade tapes (no watermark) in white, red, yellow, blue, and fluorescent yellow-green. |
